The Story of Mabin House

Nelson, founded way back in 1842, is New Zealand’s second-oldest city and the oldest in the South Island. It’s a place steeped in history, charm, and character, and we’re so lucky to be part of it!

Tucked away on leafy Nile Street, 98 Nile Street is one of Nelson’s architectural gems. Built in 1864, this beautiful home has stood the test of time, watching over decades of change in our vibrant little city. While we haven’t quite cracked the mystery of which member of the Mabin Family built it (how’s that for a bit of history intrigue?), its timeless charm speaks for itself.

Fast forward to 2019, this historic beauty became the home of Mabin House: Body & Skin Sanctuary. Formerly Women Beauty Day Spa, we gave the place a little glow-up, blending its rich heritage with the modern, welcoming vibes our clients know and love.

Now, every visit to Mabin House comes with a slice of history—and, of course, a hefty dose of pampering. From the gorgeous sash windows to the polished floors, the building’s old-world charm pairs perfectly with our mission to make you feel your best.

So next time you’re here, take a moment to soak in the history of 98 Nile Street. It’s more than just a building—it’s part of the story of Nelson, and now, part of yours too.
