We are delighted to offer Botox® cosmetic treatment using the upgraded product Xeomin® at Mabin House with the amazing Dr Amy Langfield. Amy is a Botulinum Injectables Clinician, who will offer her services each Friday from 3pm-5pm at Mabin House.

Amy is a Dentist with a special interest in facial aesthetics and botulinum injections. Why are dentists the best at administering injectables? It’s as simple as knowing the anatomy of all the head and neck muscles and how they work. Amy also has a very steady hand and well rehearsed at administering injections with the utmost fitness and a very gentle touch.

Amy uses Xeomin® Botulinum injections to give clients a rejuvenate appearance while smoothing those lines and wrinkles, and preventing new lines from worsening or even forming. Amy will provide her clients with a very natural look while still enjoying the benefits of the product.

Xeomin® is a purified botulinum that relaxes the facial muscles creating a youthful appearance. The muscles relax and wrinkles soften within days and can last up to 3 months. Repeated treatments allows deep lines to smooth further.

Melissa Russ Appearance Medicine Nurse Nelson

Muscle relaxing injections, Dermal filler, Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) and Profhilo®

Melissa Russ is an Appearance Medicine Nurse Specialist. A Registered Nurse with 30 years’ experience with a background in Operating Theatre and Plastic Surgery, Melissa is passionate about aesthetics and helping her patients look and feel their best, using safe and effective injectable and needling treatments. She is a conservative injector, and prides herself in delivering beautiful, natural results. Melissa offers the following treatments:

MUSCLE RELAXING INJECTIONS: Botulinum toxin relaxes muscles and can be used in a variety of ways depending on the muscles targeted. Melissa uses Botox® and Xeomin® to soften wrinkles, reduce pull down in the lower face, and treat teeth grinding. Toxin can have a beautiful “blossoming” effect on the upper lip, as well as softening vertical lip lines.

PLATELET RICH PLASMA & PLATELET RICH FIBRIN: PRP and PRF are effective and innovative cosmetic injectable treatments that use your own plasma. When injected back into the skin, plasma accelerates the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin to provide skin rejuvenation. PRP and PRF are great for areas of skin that are starting to lose elasticity and volume and are extremely effective for the delicate area under the eyes.

PROFHILO®: Profhilo® is a bio-stimulator made from hyaluronic acid. Melissa injects this just under the surface of the skin to stimulate new collagen and elastin, which creates structure and support. The Hyaluronic Acid increases hydration within the skin, resulting in a tightening and lifting effect. It can also improve the skin’s overall texture and tone, giving you a healthier-looking complexion.

DERMAL FILLER: Melissa uses dermal filler to subtly enhance fullness, even out any asymmetries. A small amount of dermal filler, judiciously applied, can have an instantly beautifying effect on the lips.

What is Xeomin®?

Botulinum Toxin (Xeomin®) is a non-surgical technique that can significantly lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Xeomin® is a natural purified protein that temporarily relaxes your muscles to soften wrinkles and lines. One of the most researched drugs ever, Botulinum has been in use for more than 20 years and has been the subject of over 10,000 published scientific studies. Millions of procedures are carried out annually over the world, making it a very safe, well-liked, and successful wrinkle treatment.

What is difference between Xeomin® and Botox®?

The main difference between Xeomin® and Botox® is that Xeomin® contains a “naked” form of botulinum toxin. Unlike Botox®, which contains accessory proteins, Xeomin® is designed to deliver the toxin without any protein additives. This purified structure may help prevent antibody resistance, a growing problem that has been seen with Botox® toxin injections administered over time. If this occurs, this would minimise the Botox® effectiveness, falling short of the individuals improved appearance and expectations.

Frequently asked questions

How does Xeomin® work and what can it do for me?

The effects of Xeomin® are particularly effective in reducing forehead lines, crow's feet, and frown lines. Xeomin® is a purified botulinum toxin treatment that relaxes the facial muscles creating a softer, more refreshed, and younger-looking appearance by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles. Your wrinkles will gradually soften with continued treatments, and new lines won't develop. During your visit, Amy can also treat more advanced conditions that can be discussed.

Is Xeomin® suitable for everyone?

Xeomin® can be used on almost anyone, however there are certain restrictions. We advise avoiding treating pregnant or breastfeeding women, as with any medical cosmetic procedure. If you had a disorder that causes muscle weakness, such as motor neurone disease or myasthenia gravis, we would not use botulinum to treat you.

How long does recovery take following treatment?

No one will be able to tell that you had a walk-in, walk-out procedure for Xeomin®. The spot where the needle was inserted may develop a tiny pink bump right after treatment. This bump lasts for around 10 minutes and is easily concealed with makeup before you leave the treatment area. After 3–4 days, Xeomin® begins to work, and after 14 days, the entire smoothing and rejuvenation are visible. On rare occasions, you can have a minor bruise that doesn't show up until the day after treatment. Concealer can be used to hide bruises while they heal.

Does it hurt and will it last?

Yes, most people concur that it does hurt a little bit, but it is only fleeting and passes quickly. We employ a variety of methods, such as music, breathing, ice, tapping, and distraction, to reduce any discomfort. The results of Xeomin® last up to 3 months.

Will I look plastic or frozen?

Many people worry that following treatment they would appear "frozen". We can relate because we also dislike such appearance. Amy prefers a natural appearance with the option of movement, using smaller doses and customising your treatment to preserve the warmth and uniqueness of your face.

What aftercare do I need?

We advise against rubbing the treated region, lying down for three hours following the procedure, or getting a facial within a week of the procedure. We also recommend delaying any strenuous activity for the rest of the day.

Are there any side effects I should be aware of?

In the first few days following your initial treatment, side effects could include a small headache, soreness, and minor bruising at the injection site. It is rare for an eyelid or a brow to droop, and when it does, it usually only lasts a short while. Everyone has different muscles and structure, which could cause an unbalanced effect. Within 14 days of therapy, you can simply fix this at your complimentary review. There have not been any chronic negative effects noted.
